A few Lions were familiar with him through his work with Knights of Columbus.  Keith served the KofC's in various roles and loves to serve.
Expessed interested in joining the club.

Tania - Vision Month

Tania talked about vision and eye ailments in vigilance of vision Month.  Reminded Lions of our work in Vision.

reminded Lions about getting their eyes checked and be vigilant of vision problem warning signs.
answered a few audience questions.

Anthony reminded the club about the Eye Glasses Sorting @ Harahan  Lions Saturday 9-12 (tentative, pending the possible Tropical Storm/Hurricane).

Eye Foundation Committee Report

Happy Birthday Anthony

The Club sang Anthony Happy Birthday, as his birthday is later in the month. Celebrated with Cake.

Bingo Committee Report

Bingos have been a little slower lately, but Sunday's bingo went better. We profited ~$1500 after a pretty substantial supply bill.

  • Members encouraged to come help at bingos on Sunday evenings.  This is our club's primary fundraiser.
  • Bingo Hall Rent went up at the hall effective Oct 1st from $600 to $650
  • Security detail cost went up $50 to $400/session.

Fundraising Committee Report

  • Garage Sale - we worked from 5 AM to 2 PM and had a total of 7 lions participate. We made $169 but we also donated four bags of stuff to Am vets and a bag of men’s diapers to vintage church as one of their members happened to come to our garage sale and I came across those diapers, undoing the stuff from Miss Patty and instead of selling them I put them on the side to donate. We also spent two nights setting up for the garage sale and three trips picking up stuff in our truck.
  •  Craft Fair at the school  - While scheduling Trunk or Treat & Cubsight Screening, Lion Steve discussed the possibility of holding a craft fair at LA Key Academy.  Target date March 20th.  May have Kenner Central do their food trailer.   Tania recommended not selling food as a club,  just soft drinks/water.  The food counter at the last craft fair was more work than it was worth as we had lots of leftover food,  which we ate at the next meeting  or two. Shawn pointed out that at our last craft fair, we had a few vendors that were selling prepared food items.
  •  Other fundraising ideas?

Special Events/Installation Committee Report

With Christmas coming up, we need to start discussing how the club wants to celebrate the holidays.

Lions Camp Committee Report

Camp was a success,  but Districts N &S saw declines in camperships this year while L,I & O saw an uptick in campers.  We need to push to have more campers from our area.
Anthony working to get Ray to come talk to School officials from the local parishes and hopefully get help from the schools in finding new/more campers to attend camp.

Motion:

motion was made to donate $1000 to the Camp

8-S Charities Committee Report

updates from meeting - Anthony

Anthony mentioned there were several project line items that it seemed were getting close to their end as the need has been fulfilled.
If there are any causes we may want to discuss donating to, it would be bus fund.
He recommended waiting until after the holidays to donate to the fund.
Anthony also would like to see us push to get more campers so the bus is worth it.  He also would love for their to be an opportunity to go up in the bus on Friday night so Lions and parents can go see the closing campfire and bring kids home that night.
Anthony will bring notes from 8-S charities meeting to our next meeting so we can see what needs still exist,

Service Projects Committee Report

Food 4 Kidz Project

  •  final results- how many bags were made etc? 39 cases of 36 bags were created.
  • How is distribution going on? Should we claim some to give to Vintage Chruch (if it hasn't been done already)?  Asian American Lions have distributed some.  Chereie has a few cases for her families.   We got 4 cases for Vintage Church already. Leftover beans/rice etc were given to Moisant Kiwanis to use to prepare at a food distribution project along the line.
  • Can the club host our own Food 4 Kidz filling project one weekend in the near future?  We could do one.  Recommend a breakfast project.   Tania recommended involving a few clubs as the cost for the project whenshe was Zone chair a few years back was ~$3000.  May want to check with Robin on cost of this project that we just did.

Garage Sale

Due to the amount of work required to host the last garage sale vs the earnings,  Tania doesn't think it is worth the club's efforts to hold another garage sale.  Tania was going to arrange a pickup from the VA, then Liz mentioned that the KofC's may be able to use the clothing and such for a project they are hosting.  anything they can;t use,  we may be able to donate to Bridge House as Juan recommended.
